I wanted to give a quick update on the player feedback survey that was launched last Wednesday. As of this morning we are up to 240 completed survey responses. If we count survey responses that made it past the first page (even if the respondent didn't get all to the way to the end and click "Submit") we are at 338 responses.

For today's update, I wanted to share the trends I'm seeing in survey participants - specifically when it comes to experience with OWBN. A summary can be found at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DAc9voL7dDEUvxrGKmxN9vuJ95DtVAb1pL7W2Dowuxo/edit#gid=0

Based on the results so far, a high % of respondents have experience with he administrative side of our org:
69% are past or present Storytellers
33% are past or present Council Members
36% are past or present Coordinators or Subcoords
28% have not participated on the administrative side (past or present ST / CM / Coord / Subcoord)

When it comes to tenure in the org, approximately over 40% of the respondents have participated in OWBN for over 10 years. Just under 20% (19.8% to be precise) of the respondents have participated in OWBN for less than 3 years.

I am not sure if these #'s are reflective of OWBN as a whole, or if they are reflective of those who are the most vocal. If you haven't done so already I strongly recommend pushing this survey to your local lists so that everyone has the opportunity to participate.

The 2014 OWBN Participant Survey is up and running!

Why are we doing this? Very simply, to evaluate where we are at as a LARP organization, and where our players want us to go.

One World By Night has evolved since it was founded in the mid-late 1990's. We've grown from a loose network of a few games to a networked organization with over 130 active chronicles. During this time, how we participate in a LARP network has also evolved to include online communications (email scenes, email lists, social media, etc.).

A lot of the changes to our organization have happened as a reaction to specific situations and circumstances. It's like we built a house without a blueprint, with making additions and renovations as we went along. This has also led us trying to maintain a grassroots infrastructure and local autonomy while simultaneously pushing for collective resources and member/chronicle accountability - things that are normally found in a top-down organization.

It's time for us to take a step back, look at the direction that we want to take, and work together on figuring out how to rebuild or organization from the ground up. While we have a governing body, I feel that it's important to get the individual participants involved in this discussion process.

The survey covers a variety of topics. The survey tool allows for you to save your progress so that you can finish at a later time.

I will leave the survey open for one month (to May 16, 2014). I plan on sending out a report twice each week on the # of responses received (including # per chronicle).
